The Old Naledi outfit finished second behind Lesirane City of Tsolamosese, who finished tops with 10 points from four games. The first round of the play-offs were held in Modipane over the weekend.

The seven points Sharps garnered from two wins and a draw were enough to secure them a berth in the next stage. Sharps and Lesirane City were the most promising sides from the beginning of the tournament and it came as no surprise when they progressed.

Tlokweng United were the most disappointing of the five teams in contention as they had the most experienced squad.

They had former Zebras and Jwaneng Comets schemer Busang ‘Shana’ Rasefako, former Mochudi Centre Chiefs defender, David Mfolwe and former Notwane forwards Pako Moloi and Mothusi ‘Chippa’ Lekoko. Despite the big names, the Tlokweng side only garnered two points from four games. The other clubs in contention were Mochudi United and Gaborone City.

Acting chairman of Katleng Football Region, Phakedi Ramatlhape told Mmegi Sport that despite the late arrival of referees for games, the play-offs went well.

“We had earlier had some verbal protests which we investigated and found to have no substance.

For instance, Gaborone City had complained that Sharps’ foreign players were not eligible, but we found out it was not true.  We were also concerned about the short time teams were forced to take between games, but that was not our fault. The referees arrived late for games and I do not know why,” he said.
