Ruthless BDF XI reach softball finals

In Bracket B, Rail Giants won two games to sail  through to the finals. They beat Scramblers 3-1 and Wells 2-0 to advance.

Defending national champions, Scramblers beat Vikings 3-0 and looks likely to come up against BDF IX in the finals. The Top Eight was hosted in Selebi-Phikwe with the finals set for the capital Gaborone next month.

BDF IX star player, Obusitswe Lekgothu said their challengers did not put up a fight as they seemed satisfied with fighting for second place. “We just played good, but it seems the other teams gave us too much respect because we are a big team. They were merely honouring the fixtures.”

UB Giants match against Carats was one of the most exciting as the two fought for second spot after both lost to BDF.

Lekgothu is excited about the possibility of facing Scramblers in the final on June 7 in Gaborone. The two army sides met last season and Scramblers emerged victorious.

BDF will be out to revenge this time around with talk that the two teams will be merged next season.

The finals will be played at the National Diamond. The facility has been closed for renovations for quite some time and will soon be reopened.

“Before our championships on June 7, there will be an official opening of the National Diamond that has been under refurbishment,” he said.
