Those who did not wed when the late singer was alive have been robbed of the joy of dancing their wedding steps to a newly released Brenda album.
However, ‘Mabrr’’s music lives on. During their performance at Botswanacraft on Friday evening, popular South African band Bongo Maffin paid tribute to the late singer.
Friday the 9th marked ten years since the singer’s death.
Before singing Brenda’s Too Late For Mama, Bongo Maffin’s Thandiswa said a few words in remembrance to the late singer. She mentioned how the world misses Brenda and how there can be no one like her.
Thandiswa also touched on Mabrr’s character and said that no one does the split or swears on stage anymore the way Brenda did. Apart from the tribute, the group erased all doubt if there was any about their comeback as they presented an energetic and charged performance .
The group that had separated for eight years managed to make an impression with their performance as a newly reunited band.
The quartet proved that they are still a powerhouse in the music industry.
With their charm Thandiswa, Stoan, Speedy and Jah Seed delivered a flawless performance that did not indicate that they had ever gone their separate ways .
Instead they seem to be coming back bigger and better than before after each of them pursued their solo careers.
During the performance, band member Stoan got the audience to sing him a birthday song after he announced that he was turning 39.
The elated singer could not hide his excitement and proceeded to portray his dancing skills some of which were raunchy.
As the performances heated up, there was some tension between the bouncers and patrons.
The organisers obviously did not seem to think the barricade built around the stage was enough of a deterrent to maintain the order. The band performed some of their famous songs that include The Way, Kunga Khona, Thati’isghubu and Kura Uone among others.
However, they left the audience hanging as they still wanted more from the group . Instead of being the closing act for the show they gave way for Robbie Rob who deejayed old skool music to patrons.
The opening act of the show was done by singer A.T.I who was in his usual energetic element.
Accompanied by his choir, A.T.I showed that above everything else he is a performer of class.
