Yesterday, Boko told the Extension II magistrate court that he is dropping the charges against Dominic Seadimo, 24.  Boko, who is also the president of the Botswana National Front, said that he came to that decision after meeting with the accused’s parents and learning about his future plans.

“I have had several conversations with accused’s parents as well as the accused himself. I have also taken into consideration the age of the accused and his circumstances,” Duma said.

He further explained to the court that he also understands Seadimo’s personal and economic status. “I have also considered the fact that the accused has been admitted at the Limkokwing University to pursue his bachelors degree in Architecture. I have also considered the devastation that await the accused and his family if the case was to continue,” he said.

Duma asked Seadimo to stay in school and concentrate on his life. He said he hoped the case would teach Seadimo to refrain from engaging in crime and consider himself lucky to have been pardoned for his acts.

“I have taken the view that he deserves a second chance in life, my position therefore in this matter is not to press this matter forward, in order to afford him the opportunity to reconstruct his life,” he concluded.

Seadimo was grateful to the opposition leader.

“I am thankful to you Sir, and I wish you luck in the coming elections,” said a tearful Seadimo. The state, represented by Tlokweng Police assistant superintendent, Obapotswe Moremi had no objections to the two’s reconciliation. Presiding over the case, Magistrate Abigail Masawi ruled that the matter be discharged.

Seadimo is alleged to have broken into Boko’s Tlokweng house two weekends ago stealing items worth P31,287, which included a Breitling watch worth P30,000, DStv decoder, sports bag and lotion.

The break-in sparked claims that Boko had dramatically escaped an assassination attempt ostensibly organised by shadowy state figures.

Asked by Mmegi after the court session if any of the attempted assassination allegations were true, Duma said, “I will not comment on that at all, the reality on the ground is I have decided to forgive the young man.”
