Yesterday, Assistant Police Commissioner, Kabo Marage said investigations into the hoaxes were ongoing.

“There have not been any leads into the matter,” he said.

Whether there were any links between the Francistown and Gaborone bomb threats Marago said: “There is no reason as yet to believe that the two are linked, but of course as investigations continue we will know the root cause.”

Sources within law enforcement told Mmegi that a few cellphone numbers have been linked to the bomb scares. The Gaborone Central Business District came to a halt after the bomb scare on Monday morning, hours later the city centre in Francistown also received similar threats.

In Gaborone it is alleged that a director at the Botswana Investment Trade Centre (BITC) received calls of a suspected bomb plot in the building.  BPS was called to the scene where evacuation exercises to remove all the occupants from the building were made to escort them to safety.

A few hours later, at around 3pm, the Francistown police also received a call warning them of a bomb planted at Galo Centre. A few minutes later, still in Francistown, another report was made concerning an explosive device at Nzano Mall.  All the bomb threats turned out to be mere hoaxes.
