Rwanda talk: Butler has been linked with the Rwanda job

Butler could not be contacted for comment last night as he travelled with the Zebras to Rusternburg where they lost 3-0 to Platinum Stars. He signed a three year contract with the Botswana Football Association (BFA)  in February.

But signs are that he might be prepared to leave to join Rwanda if the right offer comes. Recent local reports indicated that all was not well at Lekidi Centre with the coach still to find suitable accommodation and transport.

BFA chief executive officer, Keith Masters said it was news to him that Butler is interested in the Rwanda job.

He has been shortlisted for the Rwanda job together with six other candidates drawn mostly from Europe.

The Rwanda Football Association vice president, Vedaste Kariyanga reportedly told a news conference in Rwanda on Wednesday that they had trimmed the candidates from 25 to seven.

The seven are being engaged in talks to assess their demands and conditions before picking the most suitable coach who will be unveiled soon, the Rwanda official is quoted as saying.

Meanwhile, the Zebras will play Swaziland in a friendly match on Sunday evening at the National Stadium as they continue to prepare for the 2015 AFCON qualifier against Burundi.

A friendly with Rwanda had been proposed, but Masters said their response arrived late.  The Zebras are preparing for a preliminary round tie against Burundi next weekend.
