Man falls from Development House

Although efforts were made to ascertain the man’s fate from the bank, police and emergency health services failed but witnesses said the man appeared to have survived the fall and was conscious when stretchered off.

Onlookers, who requested anonymity, stood terrified around 1.15pm as the man plunged headlong from a fourth-floor air conditioning unit.  Eyewitness reports reveal the victim first landed on an above-ground balcony before, continuing his horizontal fall.

“We were queuing up to buy lunch when suddenly we heard ladies screaming,” said one witness. As we turned around we noticed a man, in full flight falling and hitting the walls, before lying on the ground in pain,” said the witness.

Efforts to secure an official comment from the bank were fruitless as all enquiries were referred to spokesperson, Boipuso Nyatshane who was said to be in a meeting. A contractor working on the ground floor of Development House, however, confirmed hearing of the accident but said the victim was not one of his employees. “Yes I heard about it,” said Fairdeal Shopfitters’ Managing Director, Mbiganyi Malobela, adding that, “My employees told me but the victim is not among my employees”.

Police and health officials were also unavailable to comment on the incident.
