Mogoditshane schools awash with hard drugs

Speaking at a Kgotla meeting in Tsolamosese recently, inspector Thatayamodimo Mokgang revealed that their recent raid of primary and secondary schools in Mogoditshane uncovered a high number of an assortment of hard drugs. “Many of you might think that dagga is the only drug used in this country but during the raid, we found multiple drugs from your children. Some of the drugs we did not even know them,” he said.

He said they entered classrooms unannounced and searched the pupils’ backpacks, and found different types of drugs. He said that after apprehending and questioning some of the pupils, they discovered the students buy the illegal substances from street vendors selling outside the school premises. “We are surprised that when some of the parents or community members are given freedom to sell children snacks, they use that opportunity as a disguise and sell a few sweets while they hide the drugs in the tables. During the raid, we pounced on a lot of them and found drugs in their tables,” said Makgang.

“This shows how some adults can be irresponsible. They sell those drugs to other people’s children because they believe that those children are not theirs which is very wrong,” he added.

He said that drugs are one of the factors that lead to students’ reckless behaviour and failure as they hinder them from concentrating on their studies.
