The 23-year-old, who would rather be called a seamstress instead of a designer, expressed that although she has been sewing for a while, Tseleng was her first stage production.

She revealed that she has always been dealing with fabrics but on a private scale where she was just doing ‘stuff’ for herself and those around her.

She said designing for the Tseleng cast was her breakthrough into costume designing and she hopes many more plays will come her way giving her an opportunity to showcase her talent.

Letshwiti said that she met Kgosidintsi and networked with her prior to being called to design for Tseleng.  She said that when she was approached to do the designs she did not hesitate and took the opportunity with both hands.  Although she had the leeway to use her creativity, the young designer said that she had to make the gear in accordance with the play.

“I had to make designs for four characters, but I had to keep the two who were physical in mind so that their outfits were simple clothes to allow them to swiftly change,” she said.

The home taught designer said that when she saw how big Tseleng is on the opening night at Maitisong she was overwhelmed with emotion.  She said people actually got to appreciate her work and despite working under pressure, all was in order.

She added: “I have now found a place where my talent can be channelled because most of the time people misunderstand the type of clothes I make but they have now found a new home onstage.”
