Groth is on the path to recovery

Africa Youth Games karate team manager, Ezekiel Seru said Groth is expected to resume training on Saturday, but that will depend on the doctor’s report. Groth, a winner at the BNSC awards on Saturday, was initially taken to Gaborone Private Hospital (GPH) before his parents transferred him to South Africa for a second opinion.

Seru said the parents indicated that the South African doctor confirmed the same injury. He said it is a concern that Groth has been on the sidelines. “But if he is given more time (to recover), I hope he will still do well at the games, considering that he was perfect before he picked the injury,” he said.

The karate programme at the Africa Youth Games start on May 27 and Seru believes Groth would have enough time to train. The African junior champion is one of Botswana’s best bets for a medal at the games.

He has been in scintillating form since last year. Over the weekend, he was crowned the junior male athlete of the year during the Botswana National Sports Council (BNSC) awards.
