Among many promises of dramatic change, the BCP will invest in research and utilisation of clean renewable energy programmes such as solar, wind, biomass and beneficiate coal resources.

Households and businesses that utilise renewable energy will be subsidised by the BCP government.

The manifesto states that the power generation regime will be liberalised and an independent regulatory authority be instituted to ensure equality and price monitoring.

The BCP also promises that on assuming power, it will institute an audit on the Morupule ‘B’ project to establish the true extent of its problems.

As a way of addressing water shortage, they will construct small and medium dams in different localities to meet the demand for agriculture and domestic use.

The BCP manifesto notes that Batswana are up in arms over land shortage that they say the Botswana Democratic Party (BDP) is failing to resolve.

Dumelang Saleshando’s party therefore promises to undertake a comprehensive land audit.

Under the BCP, the manifesto says the waiting list for land will be reduced to 12 months by 2018 and Botswana Housing Corporation (BHC) shall be transformed to focus on building affordable housing.

The BHC mandate shall be shifted from commercial undertaking to the basic needs of citizens.

The party also promises that affirmative action shall be entrenched in the youth policy and a youth entrepreneurship development agency set up and employment tax incentive introduced for companies that employ youth under the age of 36.  On issues of Health, the party calls for Public Health Act to be reviewed to remove human rights infringements. Under the BCP government, health workers will be remunerated fairly and better than currently.

The BCP will also mainstream gender in all government ministries and coordinated under the Ministry of Home Affairs, Gender Development and Culture.

The BCP will recognise the centrality of teachers in human resource development and they are committed to radically improving their working conditions and reward system.
