The BNF secretary general Tapiso Kgosikoma told Mmegi that concerns around the allocation of seats to the Umbrella for Democratic Change (UDC) partners had been laid to rest.

“In Mochudi East, we had given the BNF eight wards and BMD four wards. The constituency has 12 wards,” he said.

Kgosikoma stated that in Mochudi West, “which has 11 wards, we gave BNF seven wards and BMD four. In Gaborone North constituency where it has six wards, they resolved to give each party three wards.”

The BNF, the Botswana People’s Party (BPP) and the BMD will be contesting the October general elections under the banner of the UDC.

The Mochudi West constituency has been allocated to the BMD, and the party legislator Gilbert Mangole is the UDC candidate in the October general elections.  Some BNF members felt that Mangole’s BMD is not visible on the ground compared to the older and more established BNF.

These complaints resurfaced during the BNF leadership forum in Shoshong.

Kgosikoma said the Francistown South legislator Wynter Mmolotsi, of the BMD, was still working on the issues in his constituency. Mmolotsi was not available for comment at press time.
