With her strong stage presence and confidence Debbie with T showed lyrical prowess wittily mixing age-old tribal concerns with western diction. There are conscious tones, but also a sweet and natural romance to the dishing of her songs.

She opened the show belting out Wish I Was Born A Punk Rockstar and continued to thrill the audience with songs like Broken Heart, which she described as an original composition by a ‘dear’ friend.

The song is about a man who broke her heart questioning how he was able to go on, knowing deep down that she was hurting.

The audience’s reaction was evidence enough that many could relate with the song through their personal experiences.

She returned to the stage after closing the first part of her act with We Don’t Eat to perform more danceable tunes. The second session was nothing but a thrill to the many who came to witness such a rare talent.

Accompanied by the band, Debbie with a T delivered high tempo tunes that got the audience off their seats and on to the dance floor.

Renditions of Brenda Fassie’s Promises and Rolling In The River were especially appreciated and complemented with a move or two on the dance floor.
