Kaone Karios column for the ambitious local models

It is also a statement of intent by The Monitor as we take further the tradition of delivering quality, life-changing columns.

The column by Kaone Kario comes at a time when her image is visible on the billboards in New York.  There is no doubt that as the only international model from Botswana Kaone Kario remains the torchbearer for hundreds of upcoming models wishing to break into the international arena.

While the column will at the same time also keep the young feminine reader as well as the patriotic reader up-to-date with Kaone’s life at an international level, it also reflects The Monitor’s determination and strive to add value in its readers’ lives by carefully collaborating with contributors who can help shape our young people’s dreams.

It is a journey Kaone is committed to. Like she says, her “ heart is all over it”. The challenge is now upon the young dreamers, the potential models to hunt for Kaone’s weekly installations in her column and learn and get the inspiration they need from one of their own.

We hope the huge step by our new columnist would go a long way in creating interest and growth in modelling in Botswana. Indeed it is a fantastic week for the arts in Botswana.

The start of this column coincides with the celebration of the Arts, through the annual arts festival, the Maitisong festival that started on Thursday, through the weekend, which also among others celebrated two of our international artists in theatre,; namely Donald Molosi’s  famed Sir Seretse Khama one man show, the Black,  White& Blue. While Molosi’ internationally acclaimed production was coming to the Maitisong festival for the second time( this time performed by Thabo Ntshabele),  it was a first for another talented international artist Lerato Motshwarakgole of Molepolole, who has broken into film and theatre in South Africa and abroad. Motshwarakgole also staged her theatre production Tseleng to her adoring home fans at Maitisong. She has starred in an international production Flight of the Storks, SABC’s Stokvel, BBC’s Silent Witness, etv’s Mzanzi Love, among others.
