Boko back in court

A small group of disgruntled party members had taken their leader to court seeking his removal from office for allegedly having forged his membership card when he was elected party president in 2010 in Mochudi. Boko is also the president of the opposition coalition, the Umbrella for Democratic Change, (UDC).

Last month, Judge Terence Rannowane of the Gaborone High Court postponed the case to today after Boko’s legal team argued that they needed to study the applicants’ documents.

Boko’s lawyer, Dick Bayford had argued that they were not properly served with the lawsuit papers and were given a short period to respond. Subsequent to the postponement, the lead applicant, Kgatleng District Council chairperson Tona Mooketsi withdrew from the case. Councillor Mooketsi stated that because of family anger towards his actions, he had reconciled with Boko and the BNF.

The applicants’ lawyer, Meshack Mthimkhulu last week stated that Mooketsi would, however, still be called to give evidence against the defendant.

Another key witness against Boko, former BNF Youth League spokesperson Maikantsho Ramontsho, is also expected to ditch the applicants when the case resumes today.

Assisting Mthimkhulu in the applicants’ legal corner is attorney Gabriel Kajabanga, a well known opponent of Boko’s, who recently won a default judgement against the BNF over the use of the party symbol in the UDC general elections logo. Kajabanga had stood against Boko during the Mochudi elective congress and lost.

Among the applicants are losers in the BNF primaries, former District Commissioner Geoffrey Serebolo who is the BNF chairperson and a Member of Parliament for Kanye South, Abram Kesupile and former legislator Mokgweetsi Kgosipula, who lost to Mohammed Khan in Molepolole North.

Others are Lewatle Kgosiyareng, Jacob Dikuelo, Gaopalelwe Mooki, Rakhinyisa Motswasele, David Motlhatlhedi, Pule Letebele, Kitso Toister and Moses Kajane.
