Weekend media reports from South Africa indicate that a total of 30 worshippers who travelled to Soweto for Easter, found themselves stranded after the bus they had hired was stolen.

Yesterday, an officer at Diepkloof Police Station in Soweto told Mmegi that the stolen bus was still in the wind.

“We have opened a case in which a bus which was carrying passengers from Botswana went missing this past Sunday. We can confirm investigations into the matter are on going. The bus has not been found yet as investigations into the matter are underway,” the officer said, requesting anonymity as he was not authorised to speak to the media.

The Station’s spokesperson was unavailable for comment by yesterday afternoon.

The fate of the 30 worshipper was also unclear by yesterday afternoon, as local leaders of the church could not be reached to clarify the matter.

Weekend South African media reports quoted the bus driver, Brian Moyo, as saying the vehicle went missing after he parked it at Mangwele Primary School in Diepkloof on Saturday. Church members called Moyo early on Sunday after they spotted a stranger moving the bus.

The beige and blue-striped bus, registration B 612 ALV, is the subject of a public appeal for its return.
