Setuke will be facing the incumbent NYEC chairperson Andy Boatile and Thabo Autlwetse.

Through his website, www.mphosetuke.com, Setuke said after weeks of fruitful interactions with branches, their team is also in the contest for BDPNYEC elections.

“We however, have no hesitation in stepping forward to announce our candidacy, and our proposals for the BDP Youth Wing. We strongly believe that it is high time delegates elect an NYEC that will take the Youth Wing in a new direction, for the better,” wrote Setuke.

He announced Kgosietsile Kolojane as his running mate, standing for the position of secretary general. Setuke, Kolojane and their team believe that lack of youth structures in branches and wards, and lack of an audible youth voice in national party matters require fresh minds for them to be addressed adequately.

“It is common cause that all the other candidates for position of chairman have previously served in the NYEC, but these challenges remain outstanding. As we head for Masunga in six weeks’ time, we are asking fellow young democrats to believe with us. To believe that the Youth Wing can take a new direction for the better.”

Setuke said NYEC could have functional and effective structures that contribute positively to their communities, and that it is possible to have a united Youth Wing that is devoid of factions. The Setuke team says the young democrats can contribute immensely to make BDP a force to be reckoned with.

He asserted that as they head for Masunga for the congress, delegates have a choice between maintaining the status quo by electing back into office those who have previously served in the NYEC, or fresh minds who are above factions, and have faith in the power of unity.

“The choice is between the status quo and a new and better direction for the Youth Wing.” He said their campaign would be different, clean and respectful as they will be issue-focused. Soon, they will be announcing profiles of each member of the team, one after the other. About himself Setuke said his persona and approach to life symbolises hard work, resilience, faith in oneself and goodwill for others. He was born and bred within the BDP.

He began active participation in the party when, as an undergraduate student, he volunteered to develop a website for the party. He claimed to have implemented the party’s Information Technology systems that manage memberships and Bulela Ditswe electoral processes. Setuke has also played an active role in the preparation and creation of voters’ rolls for the 2008 and 2013 Bulela Ditswe exercises. He has travelled the breadth of the country on various party assignments.

He believes that leading the NYEC will allow him and his team to further serve the party, and to implement their vision of expanding the role of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) in mobilisation, campaigns and managing internal processes, as well as reviving youth structures.
