BPL postpones Gunners� prosecution

The Botswana Premier League (BPL) chief prosecutor, Tshiamo Rantao has told Mmegi Sport that the matter was postponed from Tuesday this week because Gunners have not been furnished with all the documents. “Yes the matter has been adjourned because two sets of documents that we intend to rely on was sent to Gunners by email. We have since learnt that they have not received them and as a result, we agreed with Gunners that the matter be adjourned to May 6,” he said. Gunners have since received the communication and have been given time to consider the documents in preparation for their defence.
The club was slapped with a charge of misconduct after fans fought during its match with title-chasing GU at the New Lobatse Stadium about two weeks ago. The incident left several GU supporters with serious injuries. The violence broke out after GU scored the first goal through speedy winger, Kgololo Kgogobi in the second half. They eventually won 2-0 although the match had to be stopped for about 15 minutes to wait for the situation to calm down. The incident forced BPL to move Gunners’ next match against Township Rollers to Selebi-Phikwe as they could not guarantee the safety of supporters at New Lobatse Stadium. The prosecution intends to call seven witnesses to testify in the matter.
