Youth Games rugby team fine-tunes in South Africa

A team official, Thusego Segaise said the side played seven matches against school teams, an army team and a church team in Pretoria.

Botswana won four matches and lost three.

Segaise told Mmegi Sport that the team will return to South Africa in May for the final preparations ahead of the 10-day continental competition to be hosted by Botswana next month.

He said the tour has put the team on a different level and they are now ready for the games.

Segaise said the final squad has been named and changes had to be made due to injuries. He stated that the team is facing a challenge of getting together consistently as some players are from outside Gaborone.

“Some of the players stay in Francistown, Selebi-Phikwe and other towns, which makes it difficult to get the boys together.

Due to the school calendar, we only practice during the weekends because most of the players are still in school, the other reason being that some of the players stay out of town,” Segaise said.

The team also faces financial challenges, he added.

The team is coached by Kabo Gatsile and Jerry Mooke who are both from Cheetahs Rugby Club.
