Information reaching Mmegi Sport indicates that some football administrators are seriously lobbying the former Premier League boss to contest the BFA position presently held by Boyce Sebetela.

The positions of vice president (administration), vice president (research and marketing) and two additional member will be up for grabs in the BFA general assembly in July.

Setete who recently left his job at Township Rollers on health grounds has said that he is available to serve in any position that the football family might bestow on him.

“As a football servant, I am always willing to serve the football fraternity in any capacity and add value to the growth of our football. As you might be aware, I recently took a step back from football activities due to ill-health, but we will see how it goes,” he told Mmegi Sport.

Before joining the Premier League secretariat, Setete served as both treasurer and secretary of FC Satmos in Selebi-Phikwe. He also served as the treasurer and secretary of the Premier League while it was still known as the Super League.

Although he left the Premier League under a dark cloud, many of his supporters credit him with the positive developments in the game, especially the increased commercial interest.

It was during his tenure as the Premier League chief administrator that the league sponsorship grew from P360,000 per season to P1.5 million, while money paid for broadcasting rights rose from P250,000 per season to over P4 million. It was also under his leadership that the league secured a multi-million sponsorship for the Top Eight competition.

Setete was recently busted in a ticket scam and is presently under investigation. If he contests the BFA vice presidency, he is likely to come up against another football administrator and analyst, Leviet Ntwaagae and possibly Sebetela. Already, Ntwaagae has announced his candidature and publicly branded Sebetela ineffective.
