Cricket authorities are worried about low turn-out at matches.

He requested the public to give cricket attention like sports such as soccer. “The only way that young cricketers can gain confidence and inspiration is when the public come and support them during matches.”

Ramakrishna stated that BCA is trying by all means to introduce cricket nationwide, especially in schools by imparting knowledge to teachers and students.

He said that the media should play a part by writing more about cricket to sensitise the public about the sport. “Instead of a newspaper putting a picture of Schumacher as a caption photo, they should put a picture of a young cricketer holding a bat, as a way of creating awareness,” he said.

The ongoing T20 league has been marred by poor turnout, although the shortest format of the game provides thrills. Ravi Angara of Gaborone Cricket Club said it would encourage cricketers to see fans attend matches in large numbers.

He said entrance is always free in cricket matches and therefore, the public should attend games in numbers.

Meanwhile, the Under-19 boys squad left for Zimbabwe yesterday for a four-day tour.

The youngsters will play two 50-over matches and three T20 games against Midwest Rhinos Under-17 squad. This is part of the squad’s preparations for the Under-19 International Cricket Council (ICC) World Cup qualifiers to be played in 2015.
