BAYGOC seeks green-light for 16 year-old volunteers

BAYGOC chief executive officer, Tuelo Serufho said there have been concerns that young people are not involved in the youth games to be hosted by Botswana from May 22-31 this year.

Critics argue the games have not been properly marketed as young people had been left out in favour of the old.

But Serufho argued that there is need to mix the two groups for purposes of direction. Besides volunteers, he said they have a good number of young people working in the secretariat.

Serufho admitted that the marketing of the games has not been up to scratch due to budgetary constraints.  However, he asserted that they have done their best under the circumstances.

He said they relied mostly on their public relations office for marketing.  Because of budgetary constraints, he said BAYGOC had to prioritise and leave some things. “It was about striking a balance between what we desire and what is achievable,” he said. Besides advertising in the media, a few billboards have been erected in Gaborone.

Serufho said they still have time to sell the games to the people. He told Mmegi Sport that they plan an aggressive campaign just before the games kick-off on May 22. He appealed to companies to continue offering financial support for the successful hosting of the games.
