Fighters missed out on promotion this season.

The two teams are left with a game each to wrap up their season.  Prisons XI chairman, Anthony Mokento told Mmegi Sport that they are still in a rebuilding process, but wouldn’t say how long it would take. During this period, Mokento said they are not concerned about the performance of the team.  But he insists there is nothing wrong with their team, noting that they did not lose too many players when they relegated.  When they were relegated from the Premier League, Prisons XI was coached by Maxwell Moyo.  However, he has since parted with the warders.   The team is now under the care of Kaelo Montwedi, who had been with the team for a long time and was one of Moyo’s assistants.

Mogoditshane Fighters’ welfare manager Letsweletse Moseki blamed their current state of affairs on the previous committee.  Moseki accused the old leadership of sabotaging them, saying they have made things difficult for the new committee as the team property was not handed over. Moseki said they did not even have access to the bank account, and at some stage the team did not have a full kit

Moseki added that these challenges affected performance, noting  that the firing of the coach in the first round by the old committee  destabilised the team.  Fighters is coached by former striker Mpho Mabogo.

He said with the calibre of players that they have, the team was supposed to be promoted.  “Our material is not for the First Division, it is for the Premier League,” said Moseki, adding that they were distracted by the boardroom squabbles.  One player with Premier League experience at Fighters is Abenico Powell who has featured for top teams like Township Rollers, Extension Gunners, ECCO City and the Zebras. The only players who left were Bernard Semakwenzi who went back to his country, Zambia and Kumbulani Madziba who joined BDF XI.

Moseki said since the second round, things have improved for the team.  He said they are intending to make amends next season so that they could win the league. He said with the support from their sponsors, Letshego, they can never go wrong.  “With the material that we have and the support from our sponsors, we will make a come back,” he said.
