Huawei donates computers

The computers, which came  installed with Internet connectivity, were formally given to the school during the official handing over ceremony of the computer laboratory designed for the school.

Speaking at the prestigious occasion, Huawei Director of Delivery & Service, Mr. Ramasala Ntwaetsile said that his organization is doing its best to empower and engage local communities in improving their Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) in Education.

“As a leading ICT solutions provider, Huawei ‘s vision is to bridge the digital divide, promote greater global understanding and therefore encourage and support sustainable human development. Huawei is a Fortune 500 company whose products and solutions have been deployed and utilized in over 140 countries and are currently serving over one third of the world’s population,” Ntwaetsile said.

He said that through their ‘Bridging the Digital Divide’ strategy, the company aims to allocate information communications and technology resources by providing more nd more effective communications networks in the developing world. Ntwaetsile highlighted that through above strategy Huawei will enable greater access to communications and information systems to those who previously had no access.

Furthermore, he said that Huawei hascommitted itself to providing the relevant training for locals to improve their talent, as the company believes that access to education is vital for creating opportunities that support sustainable human development.

He told the gathering that their company is steadfast in bridging the digital divide by improving education through ICT.  

He also stressed  the power of communications connects people and places thereby enabling information access across economic, social and geographical boundaries.  “ We are committed to enhance the livesof people in the communities in which we operate.  In Botswana, we have implemented the Nteletsa I & II projects which enhanced connectivity in rural areas” he said.

The Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China to the Republic of Botswana, Zheng Zhuqiang, promised the gathering that his country would continue supporting Botswana. He said that bringing such gifts to enhance local education shows a great relationship between the two nations.

He applauded Huawei for their excellent gesture saying that donating these computers would change the children’s lives, as they would be able to learn and use ICT. He said that education is vital for every person as for one to succeed in life has to be well informed.

Permanent Secretary to the President, and Chairman of the e-Government Board, Mr. Mothibi Molale applauded the Chinese government and Huawei for all the great things they have done in this country.

He said that it was indeed a privilege for Batswana that the company saw it fit to donate computers in such a remote areas as Rakhuna giventhe great shortage of resources in the region. Furthermorehe encouraged Morelelo pupils and teachers to make use of the computer lab to upgrade their academic performances and he hopes that on long term this endeavour shall enhance the lives of the surrounding communities.

The school’s headmaster, Dineo Olisitse expressed her gratitude towards the Huawei donation saying that it would indeed contribute and enhance the school’s performance greatly. She said that even though their academic results had been fluctuating, 2013 Primary School Leaving Exam (PSLE) results were better than in 2012. In 2013 PSLE, they achieved 61 percent compared to 44 percent in 2012.
