Miss Millemium seeks to emulate her predecessors

During the judges’ question time, Keddy proved that she is not a beauty without brains as she performed brilliantly. The 50 year-old beauty queen originates from Mahalapye but is married in Molepolole. She works for stationery company, Nashua in Gaborone.

In her new role as Miss Millennium 2014, she says she will continue where the previous queens left. She intends to make a difference to the under-privileged members of society. “I would really like to work with children with disabilities. I would also like to help street children who need shelter,” she says.

Keddy intends to tackle domestic violence. She wants to counsel abused people, both women and men and reconcile couples. She is concerned by the high rate of divorce in the country because she believes in family values. She says that divorce is not the best solution in marriage.

Keddy is a beauty pageant veteran.  Previously, she was crowned Miss Mahalapye and Miss Francistown. She once even contested the Miss Botswana crown. She has always used her position as a beauty queen to uplift the less privileged. She says this is why she has been contesting in beauty pageants.

She has been contesting the Miss Millennium pageant for fun and to continue with her mission of doing humanitarian work.  But this does not mean that when she is not a beauty queen, she does not engage in charity work.

Keddy says she takes the Miss Millennium pageant seriously.  She spent a fortune to prepare for the pageant. “I spent a lot of money. I wanted to present myself like a queen,” she said.

Keddy describes herself as a people’s person, who likes to socialise. She lists her hobbies as gardening, cooking, reading newspapers and novels.  She is also keen on travelling.  She has visited places like the Matopo Hills, Victoria Falls and Kasane. She has also tried her hand at modeling.

The Miss Millennium pageant was started a few years ago as a social event that would coincide with the Valentine’s Day.  The pageant has since become part of the calendar at the Millennium Restaurant in Mogoditshane.
