Before the game, TAFIC needed a minor miracle to survive.

To save themselves, they had to win all their remaining games and hope fellow relegation candidates falter in their assignments. Unfortunately on Saturday, they faced a title-chasing side desperate for points.

Kobamelo Kebaikanye and Sekhana Koko (brace) ensured that Rollers collected maximum points with a 3-1 victory. The defeat left TAFIC firmly propping up the standings with 21 points, meaning they can only finish the league with 27 points if they win their remaining two games.

This will not be enough to save them from the chop.

It marks the end of the road for TAFIC who have been struggling financially in recent seasons. Things took a nasty turn this season following boardroom wrangles that resulted in calls for club boss, Humphrey Nawa to quit. This, together with the fact that the club has been losing several key players affected TAFIC’s performance. They have won only six games from 28.

The woes of another struggling side, Miscellaneous worsened on Saturday when they lost 2-0 to Mochudi Centre Chiefs in Orapa.

They have now dropped to position 15 with a mountain to climb in the remaining two games.

Miscellaneous, like TAFIC have survived in the past few seasons despite the financial challenges. However with fixtures against log leaders, Township Rollers and third placed GU in their last games, survival looks almost impossible though they have beaten the two sides before.

Despite registering a 2-1 win over Motlakase Power Dynamos on Saturday, Santos are still at position 14 with 27 points. Notwane got an all-important victory over BMC, taking them to 30 points. They retain position 13, one point behind BMC who are currently occupying position 12.

Meanwhile the race for the league title looks set to go down to the wire with all contenders winning over the weekend. Besides GU and Rollers, Chiefs and BDF XI also returned to winning ways against Miscellaneous.

GU and BDF XI are ahead of fourth-placed Chiefs with one point but trail leaders, Rollers with three points.
