However, Onalenna Malatsi struck in the 30th minute to deny the Ramotswa side the three points they needed desperately to qualify for the topflight for the first time. The result means Letlapeng will now have to wait for the next game to be crowned champions. In the first half, both sides wasted several chances.

The hosts had a chance to score in the 25th minute through Thabani Ngwenya, but Kakanyetso Dipholo averted the danger. United dominated the first half, forcing the visitors to defend in numbers.

Letlapeng was much better in the second stanza as they kept possession. But United kept piling pressure and in the 49th minute, Albert Podile’s long range effort missed the target by a whisker.

Moshe Thaolang tried to increase the lead for United in the 55th minute, but Dipholo comfortably dealt with the danger. Pane Rakhobo could have levelled matters but hit the side netting in the 60th minute.

Letlapeng missed another chance through Thabang Dira in the 70th minute. Despite the heart-breaking loss, Letlapeng remain at the top of the log with 40 points with two games remaining.

United coach, Dithebe Motsumi told Monitor Sport the game was highly contested but bagging three points was a bonus. “We lost against Letlapeng in the first round and we got the revenge we needed,” he said.

Letlapeng tactician, Thaloba Nthaga said they were not supposed to lose and the setback means they have to win all their remaining matches. He stated that his side could have wrapped the match in the first half with the chances they had.
