Selebi Phikwe celebrates launch of recreational park

The facility would serve many grass roots sports skills development programmes which would cater for children from as young as five years.

It has a recreational hall to cater for some entertainment for the youth in the town. This is expected to play a major role in taking the youth away from social ills such as drugs and alcohol abuse. Selebi Phikwe Town Council (SPTC) built the infrastructure to a tune of P1.2 million.

The day was seen as a celebration as it proved that what is entrenched in SPTC’s mission is certainly proving that the journey towards being a model local authority was not just a dream but a target set with a purpose to be realised.

The recreational park calls for the council to closely collaborate with organisations with the relevant expertise to impart the skills and as well manage the facility. SPTC is therefore exploring ways to work with organisations such as Botswana National Sports Council (BNSC)  to adequately ensure that Selebi Phikwe youth immensely benefit from the infrastructure.

Botswana Tennis Association (BTA) was available during the launch and as a highlight of the day’s events they did basic tennis activities.
