The team of eight players: Walter Seokemong, David Masole, Shane Granger Junior, Leroy Pearmain, Nabeel Desai, Sipho Abueng, Ketshepaone Molefe and Kesentseng Dube jetted out yesterday.

Seokemong told Monitor Sport during a training session at Blue Tree last week that preparations have been going well since January. He said even if they do not bring medals from the competition, they expect to get points. Botswana will be competing against South Africa, Mozambique, Namibia, Zambia, Zimbabwe and Kenya.

Seokemong said the youthful Botswana team needs support. He said it is only through support that one day a Motswana golfer can turn pro.

Another player, Masole said having technical specialists from South Africa has improved their skills. He said they played a friendly with local golfers over weekend and won. He said if they have the same winning mentality, they will do well in South Africa.

The team coach, Mpho Kelosiwang said he was happy with the work they have done for the players. He said the Botswana Golf Union (BGU) had engaged technical specialists from South Africa, Stephan Spies and Ian Corvette to assist the players with swings and physical attributes.  Kelosiwang said as part of training, the team participated in tournaments such as North West Open and South Africa Open. “We are building a team for the future and we do not want to put pressure on the players. This is a process but in the end results will come. We just have to keep working hard,” he said.
