The Department of Buildings and Electrical Services has branded the colonial area offices a health hazard and ordered the evacuation of staff.  The condemned offices have not been renovated for many years. They are now used to store office equipment and furniture which the employees have to carry every morning to the four tents serving as their workstations. In the evening, they return the facilities to the old building.

However, it has emerged that the employess are not happy with the state of affairs. Their argument is that the tents are uncomfortable and a health hazard. By yesterday, the employees were still waiting for a response from their bosses to know exactly who will take care of the furniture.

The chief’s representative, Modise Pilane said that his staff are lucky because most of the time, they work outside the office. He concurred that the offices are not comfortable and pose health dangers. Pilane said that land to build new offices has been allocated and that a number of homesteads were demolished to pave way for the new Kgotla.
