He said completion of their studies and venturing into the job market would be the beginning of their struggles. He made these remarks during the Botho University Career Fair held at Civic Centre Hall on Thursday.

He told students to consider themselves lucky because their school saw it fit to call on companies to address them.

He said the companies might even employ some of them afterwards, something that other academic institutions have not thought about.

The BOCCIM official said the university was one of the leading Information Technology (IT) training schools in Botswana.

“Use this opportunity (of the career fair) to listen attentively and seek clarification where you don’t understand.

“The presenters and facilitators for today were at one point students like you and they grabbed their chance when the opportunity availed itself.

“I hope you will also make hay while the sun shines,” he said.

Chinyepi said that being an IT graduate is a blessing in itself because the market for IT is not yet saturated but with that said, there is still competition for the limited vacancies.

“It is very important to listen well and get enough information with regard to the requirements and other logistics you need to satisfy to get a job,” said Chinyepi.

He went on to say he wished other institutions could follow the example of Botho University and do likewise for their students.

He said that most institutions do not seem to care what happens to their students once they have completed their courses.

“I want to applaud you for this noble gesture and may you continue to support them in any way that you can.  It is my belief that they will not disappoint but continue to fly the name of the institution high,” he said.

Chinyepi called on organisations that exhibited at the fair to benefit from the opportunities the day offered.

“This is an excellent opportunity to meet and recruit graduates seeking fulltime, part-time and internship positions in computer software and networking engineering fields.

“These are energetic youth who would add value to any organisation, “ he said.

He said IT has become an important and pivotal aspect of every organisation.

“Nowadays technology is the name of the game and I appeal to organisations to absorb as many graduates as they can,” he said.

Students had the opportunity to tour the stalls and ask questions about what the organisations could offer them.
