The shine not out in Galaletsang

The young woman’s talent is not in doubt. She is confident that her dream of becoming one of the country’s top performers still lives.

A few weeks ago she mesmerised all – the crowd, the judges well as the television audience- with a mind-blowing performance of Celine Dion’s My Heart will go on. In fact, after that performance there was nothing to suggest that she would crush out so early in the competition.

“I have accepted my fate. It is confusing because one week you are showered with all the praises and the next you have the lowest votes and the judges cannot save you,” she said of her elimination.

She said she became worried when she realised that another very strong vocalist Tebogo had also received lower votes, especially since she noted that her competitor had always been the judges’ favourite.

“She (Tebogo) is very good and I suspected that in the end the judges would choose her over me.

I had fun. I thought I would last longer and at least get exposure but it had to end at some stage,” she said diplomatically.

The nippy youngster from Tsabong says she has emerged stronger and still oozes with optimism that there was a lot she could achieve as a singer.

Before going to My Star, Galaletsang had already released two gospel albums.

“Look I was a musician before My Star and I still remain one. I am happy that I gained some invaluable experience. I have learnt how to conduct myself in front of a big crowd. I was lacking in that area and now I am confident of pulling it next time I get a chance to perform,” she said

Her focus now is building a career as a gospel musician of repute.

Her two albums carry different types of gospel. The first one is fusion of R&B and soul beats while the other one is a ZCC-type of gospel made popular by the likes of Solly Moholo and Winnie Mashaba.

However, following her good showing with R&B songs on My Star, Galaletsang now contemplates with the R&B infused type.

“I have always been a good vocalist and I have a certificate from Macha College (Kang) for best song leader. I can do any type of music, but my heart goes with R&B,” she insists.
