The state alleges that Newman Gaobonwe, 42, who is also a lecturer at Francistown College of Technical and Vocational Education (FCTVE) committed rape at Gerald Estates between January 29 and 30.

The prosecutor, Ogolotse Tampa told Senior Magistrate, Thebeetsile Mulalu that investigations into the matter are complete and the state will be calling five witnesses to prove its case. Gaobonwe pleaded not guilty to the charge and told the court that he

will look for a lawyer to defend him. “I ask that the prosecution gives me statements to prepare my defence,” he said. Mulalu ordered the prosecution to furnish Gaobonwe with all statements and documents necessary for his defence within two weeks.

He advised Gaobonwe, who is on bail, to inform his attorney and come with him/her to court on June 9 for the case management conference.
