Mob aids police nab suspected armed robbers

The four men allegedly hit Asia Multi Trading Butchery on Saturday evening, stealing P7,000 in cash as well as cigarette cartons.  They had a white Toyota Corolla as their getaway car with the driver on standby.

The suspected robbers were spotted by members of the public as they exited the butchery and were immediately swamped, police reveal.

“One of the armed robbers, who was the driver, upon realising that the mob could overcome them, drove off leaving the other three to fend for themselves,” Mochudi Police Station commander, Superintendent Simon Sitale, told Mmegi yesterday.

Sitale said that police officers, with the help of the mob, were able to apprehend one of the armed robbers while the other two escaped on foot.

“The police were able to recover a gun from the first suspect.  The other member of the gang was arrested on Sunday through the help of the Serious Crime Squad,” said Sitale.

The station commander also said that the third crew member was caught yesterday in Gaborone through the help of the police in the area.  The last suspect is still at large.

The suspected robbers will remain in police custody as the hunt for the last suspect continues.

In yet another incident in Mochudi, a Dikgonyeng man was robbed of cash amounting to P53,000 at his home early on Monday.  The victim told the police that four masked men attacked his home and also stole his Mitsubishi bakkie.
