The forum wanted disciplinary action taken quickly against those who have taken the party to court. The members who went to court have been suspended pending disciplinary action. Speakers at the weekend said that every election year, some members have made it a habit of soiling BNF’s name and fomenting unnecessary disputes and misunderstandings.

The forum was attended by BNF council and parliamentary candidates and party officials. The BNF spokesperson, Moeti Mohwasa said the meeting endorsed disciplinary action against members who took the party to court. It was decided that MPs and councillors who owe their party should pay by July 31. “Of course there are those who owe the party their monthly subscription.

Each MP is supposed to pay P600 per month while a councillor pays P200. I cannot disclose the amount of money that the party is being owed,” he said. The forum wants the party to collect money owed by former members who defected to other parties.

Mohwasa said they resolved that campaign material should be the same all over the country. BNF secretary general, Tapiso Kgosikoma, has been tasked with dealing with disputes arising out of the party’s membership of the Umbrella for Democratic Change. Other members of UDC are Botswana Peoples Party (BPP) and Botswana Movement for Democracy (BMD).
