The crafty midfielder’s inclusion in Peter Butler’s team, currently in camp at Lekidi Centre, has confirmed what many in the village have always believed - that their boy is a talented midfielder destined for greatness with proper guidance.

Sebolai, who was notorious for bunking training during his days at MU, has told Mmegi Sport that his selection has motivated him to mend his ways and focus on his career. “I am happy for this opportunity and I want to make it count even if I do not make the starting line-up immediately. I know I face stiff competition from experienced players in the team but I will work hard to show the coach what I can do with the ball. I know people back home are excited and I will not disappoint them and my club coach,” he said. His coach at Rolling Boys, Wire Kaelo says he did not think twice before recommending the 23-year-old to Butler.

“I only started working with him after registering him from Modipane United at the beginning of this season and immediately picked that he was a good player. He has all the attributes of a utility midfielder. I play him as a central midfielder but he is also our free-kick specialist,” Kaelo told Mmegi Sport.

While singing the youngster’s praises, Kaelo was quick to caution that Sebolai has a long way to go before he could be rated among the best.

“The talent is there for all to see but he still has to work on other elements of his game. For instance, he needs to be quick in tracking back,” he said.  The man who discovered the youngster at MU, Collen Mokganelwa echoed the same sentiments. He said Sebolai can play in any position and that his versatility makes it easy for a coach to change tactics and formations during a match.

“I worked with him for a long time while at MU and I believe he will mature into a class player if he does not lose focus and is properly nurtured. But I have to be honest his tactical awareness is still lacking and if he can improve on that, then he would turn into a complete player. His selection did not come as surprise,” Mokganelwa said.

Sebolai is the seventh player from Modipane to receive a call up to the team, following in the footsteps of former Gaborone United forward Buti ‘Tornado’ Mokgosi, Chicha Tshoma, Aubrey Podile, the late William Kehitile, Molatlhegi ‘Teenage’ Podile and most recently Kekaetswe ‘Mara’ Moloi although all were not influential at international level.
