Nasha spoils the party at Limko Graduation

The university, which was celebrating the graduation of 1,990 students has also become famous for its intolerance of student demonstrations, resulting in suspensions and firing. But the fearless Speaker of the National Assembly, who was guest speaker at the event supported student demonstrations saying that a learners’ life is not complete without mass protests. She said at the sixth graduation ceremony of Limkokwing University that demonstrations are an integral part of a student’s life.
“Your student life is not complete unless you have partaken in demonstrations, although they are usually for a good cause. The most important thing is that you have made it.
“Being here... means that through the demonstrations and assignments you have managed to triumph above all,” she said. She stated that she too had been involved in demonstrations in her student days. She applauded the university in its bid to empower people living with disabilities in Botswana by being the first institution to open a special needs division.
“I was informed that out of the students graduating... today 10 are from the special needs division. I have also been informed that the university has offered the government 11 scholarships for people living with disabilities,” Nasha said.
LUCT regional director for corporate and media relations, Mercy Thebe, told the graduates that they should prove themselves in the work environment.
“Go out there and enrich the industry with the expertise and skills you have acquired over the years,” she advised.
One of the graduates, Mohau Mannathoko, told The Monitor that he hopes to put to good use the skills he learnt in the four years he spent at the university doing a BA honours degree in broadcasting and journalism.
The institution that prides itself in being the best in innovation hosted graduates from the faculties of creative multimedia, faculty of communication, Media and communication as well as faculty of business and globalisation amongst others.
