Four ministers at MOESD

While many are wondering what is going on, and even dismissing the move by the President as dumb, there is general consensus that the Ministry of Education is too big for one Minister. However no one expected the urgency with which the President tackled the matter. While the reshuffle in Khama’s cabinet seems to have provided fodder for critics, both Mma Venson-Moitoi and Khama claim it is business as usual, amidst talk that Mma Venson-Moitoi’s re-deployment as Minister overseeing the Education project is tantamount to firing her. Mma Venson-Moitoi has been quick to use television to show her at work, addressing the European community at a GCC conference early this week, while Khama also paraded her at a Tlokweng kgotla meeting on Thursday, where he announced that the Minister remains in his Cabinet, stressing that she was not fired contrary to popular views.

Bring More International Stars To Botswana

This past weekend Brand Botswana hosted USA rapper Ja Rule, taking him to Jwaneng mine, and DTC, as well as to a jewellery manufacturer Shrenuj as part of their efforts to brand Botswana and in particular to teach international celebrities like Ja Rule the wonderful diamonds story of Botswana. The arrival of Ja Rule on our shores also revealed that international celebrities do not know much about Botswana. We could use the visiting celebs to educate their kind in Hollywood about Botswana. Such opportunities are priceless. We can only hope that promoters who work hard to bring top-notch actors to Botswana receive the necessary support since bringing these A stars does not come cheap. Besides the opportunity to sell Botswana to the A stars, hosting international stars, and international shows by extension, helps enhance the name of a city and country as a cool destination for fun, where tourists are entertained by the best actors in the world.
