BGU executive committee member, Martin Mogomela said initially the golfer who wins all the four major tournaments - Orange Classics, Botswana Closed, Jwaneng Open and Botswana Amateur was meant to go to Namibia.

However, Orange Classics was won by David Masole while Walter Seokemong bagged the Jwaneng Open.

Mogomela stated that participating countries in the Windhoek event had agreed that they would choose four existing national tournaments as qualifiers. He said the challenge they are facing at the moment is that there has not been a consistent winner in the tournaments in question in Botswana. He explained that it is now up to the sponsor, Namibia Breweries to decide how players will qualify for the tournament.  “That has not come to our attention yet but we will discuss it with the sponsor. Despite that, there are many ways of deciding the winner like going for play-offs or who has got the best shot. We are yet to decide,” said Mogomela.

The countries that will be participating in the inaugural Windhoek tournament are Namibia, Botswana, South Africa, Zambia and Zimbabwe.

Players will compete in three divisions. There will be A Division of handicaps of up to 9; B Division of handicaps from 10-16 and C division of handicaps from 17-24. The tournament will be held later this month.
