On Tuesday President Khama appointed Venson-Moitoi to undertake a special assignment within the Ministry of Education and Skills Development, to oversee a strategic plan. In the midst of confusion as to what rule she will be playing, Venson-Moitoi, who has been replaced for six months with Mokgweetsi Masisi in an acting capacity, has been saying she is a minister responsible for the project.

The BOFEPUSU secretary general Tobokani Rari told Mmegi that the federation feels that Khama has crisscrossed the principles of separation of powers.

“There must be separation of powers. Venson-Moitoi is a minister and elected Member of Parliament for Serowe South,” he said.

Rari said an MP couldn’t be a public servant and a Cabinet minister at the same time. “This is tantamount to politicising the public service.”

He explained that the interest of the federation is not only about bread and butter issues. “It is also about the watchdog in society which safeguard the principles of democracy and rule of law. We come in this respect.”

Meanwhile, BOFEPUSU councillor Ibo Kenosi has disclosed that on April 8, 2014, at 16:30 hours, the federation shall stage demonstrations and deliver a petition to the Office of the President pertaining to Government’s continued disregard of Public Service Bargaining Council PSBC), shrinking workers rights and poor living conditions of workers in Botswana.

Kenosi also said the federation intends organising mass demonstrations across the country. “Enough is enough. We plead with the public to give us solidarity. We plead with our members to stay calm and demonstrate,” Kenosi said.
