BBA use videos to drill SA based star

Botswana Basketball Association (BBA) has said they will ensure he is up to date on preparations through videos of training drills organised by coach Mwelwa Sikwila.

Ramabu is one of Botswana’s most illustrious junior players having taken part in the 2013 Basketball Without Borders Africa programme.  The programme involved an intense three-days life skills seminar, skills development sessions and competitive games against some of the most promising youngsters in what was dubbed the 2013 Basketball Without Borders Africa All-Star Game.  Currently, nine of Botswana’s basketball players in the AYG team hold weekend training camps in Gaborone, but because of school commitments, Ramabu is not able to link up with them. However, Sikwila said the player is in touch with the coaches, who have assured him he is training well.

“He is yet to join the rest of the team for training, but we spoke to his dad and he assured us the boy will be coming on the 16th. But we are still hoping to have him earlier than that,” Sikwila told Mmegi Sport. He said he has been sending video material to the 15-year-old JHB League First Team St Albans player.

“Each time we are doing anything new (training drills), we send him some video material. It is working out quite well,” he said. BBA is also o talking to Ramabu’s St Albans coaches over his preparations.

Botswana’s 10-member basketball team for the AYG is made of players drawn from various towns like Maun, Lobatse and Francistown.  They regroup in Gaborone for camp this month until the Youth Games which start in May. However, the team is yet to play the required two FIBA sanctioned tournaments. BBA is in the process of arranging the tournaments.
