The President's man: Masilo easily juggles between politics and the civil service

Masilo will join his former Ministry of Presidential Affairs and Public Administration as the head of the poverty eradication programme, a move that follows his resignation from the public service last year to join politics.

He will work hand in hand with the acting Minister for Presidential Affairs and Public Administration, Shaw Kgathi.

Prior to his departure from politics, Masilo was employed as the coordinator of the poverty eradication programme, where he was also responsible for the President’s Housing Appeal programme.  Mmegi has learnt that Khama has made it clear that he needs a person with experience on the field to coordinate the poverty eradication programme as ministers are busy with ministerial assignments and their political campaigns. Yesterday, sources told Mmegi that the President has been in talks with Masilo since last month. It is understood that at first Masilo was reluctant to re-join the civil service since he nurtured hopes of securing a re-run in Gabane/Mmankgodi constituency.

“Since losing the primaries, he has been under pressure from the President to return to his previous job,” one source said.

Masilo’s work experience includes his tenure as a senior private secretary to the President. Contacted for comment, Masilo said he had not yet been told of his appointment and will only speak on the matter after he has been appointed.
