Customer shot during armed robbery

According to police, the gunman, who is still at large, entered the supermarket in Gabane and walked away with an undisclosed amount of money.

According to witnesses, the shooting took place after the man, together with other customers, attempted to stop the robber.

Acting head of public relations, senior superintendent Dipheko Motube confirmed the incident.

“Police are investigating an incident in which a person was shot and wounded at yet another armed robbery in Gabane village.

The suspect allegedly shot the victim who was among a group of customers attempting to intercept the robber,” Motube said. 

In a separate incident, police in Ramotswa are investigating an incident in which a man axed his lover over an argument on Monday in Mogobane.

Station Commander at Ramotswa Police Station, Superintendent Sarah Gabathusi confirmed the incident and said the woman had survived the incident.

Gabathusi further said that the two, who had been living together, had a disagreement before the man proceeded to axe his partner

“The incident was reported late Monday night. Upon arriving at the scene the police discovered that the man had axed the lady, she had deep wounds but was still alive,” she said.

Gabathusi further said that the 36 year-old woman has since been admitted for treatment at the Princess Marina Referral Hospital. She said that although such incidents are not prominent in their area, the number of recorded cases has been rising.

Meanwhile unknown attackers seriously injured a man and his fiancée last Thursday in Matabele. Police say the couple, aged 43 and 52, sustained injuries after they were attacked with sharp objects.

Police have since discovered a motor vehicle which was abandoned in a nearby bush, and is suspected to have been involved in the incident.
