Yesterday, UDC spokesperson, Moeti Mohwasa said they are trying to speed up the process and hopefully they will finish it within a month or two.

“I cannot reveal the number of parliamentary candidates for now until we have finished the process of identifying our candidates. It is not an easy thing to identify candidates like many people may think, but we are doing the best for the party,” Mohwasa said.

He said UDC leadership has been working round the clock to make sure that they have credible candidates in all constituencies. The UDC hopes to win more than 25 constituencies in the coming general elections.

Meanwhile, the Botswana Congress Party (BCP) spokesperson, Taolo Lucas, says they have identified candidates for 54 out of 57 constituencies.

He said the party will not field candidates in Molepolole North, Molepolole South and Jwaneng/Mabutsane. “As of now, we will not be contesting these three constituencies because we have not yet found credible candidates for them. On April 26, 2014 we will be presenting candidates to party members when launching the party manifesto at Gaborone Central,” he said.

He said they will encourage BCP members to back opposition candidates in the three constituencies the party is not contesting.

The ruling Botswana Democratic Party (BDP) has fielded candidates in all constituencies. Next month, the party intends to launch all candidates after delays caused by primary election protests.
