Bakgatla Bag P400, 000 In TV Rights

Kgosi Kgafela II says his intention to commercialise Bakgatla culture is paying handsome dividends. Speaking in Mochudi over the weekend, he also announced that he has already registered a Bakgatla ba Kgafela royal communications company to spearhead the commercialisation of Bakgatla culture through, films/documentaries and books, among other things.

Kgafela described the P400, 000 he has received   as television rights as just 'an installment', and said more money would soon come into Bakgatla coffers.

Through the same company, he added, they will soon launch the Bakgatla history book, authored by Dr John Makgala, and urged every Mokgatla to buy a copy.

Kgafela II further announced that he has registered a Bakgatla properties company whose board members include businessmen Mclean Letshwiti, and De Vet, of De Vet Drilling. He stated that land has been identified in various places.

Kgafela II said he expects his new regiment to be the anchors and drivers of his initiatives, hence the name Madisa Kgosi. He urged everyone of the newly created regiment to work hard to ensure that his dream of turning Bakgatla into a self-supporting tribe is realised.

He referred to the new regiment as the foundation upon which his tribal dreams are built and urged everyone to put the tribe's interest before self-interest.

Kgafela II said he named the regiment Madisa Kgosi because he realises they are entering a new dawn, of which the new regiment would be the pathfinders. '  You shall observe and support all the kgosi kgolo's dreams and vision, you shall be the defenders of my vision.  You shall be the cross bearers, that is the cost of being a regiment, there is pain and responsibility that come with it, but you have matured mentally, emotionally and physically,' Kgafela II said.

He reminded the gathering at his Kgotla that initiation is common cause across great nations of the world although some of them do it through secret organisations. He said as such Bakgatla have every reason to be proud of their culture epitomised by initiation, go rupa.
