Themed Bridging the Gap Between Students and the Engineering Society, the expo is entirely spearheaded by the university’s engineering students.

The expo, which will end on Friday, is expected to attract over 20 industry leaders, engineering student organisations on campus, engineering institutions and other interested parties.

UB Engineering Club Chairperson Mompati Kgosietsile said the exposition will be a stepping-stone to future job prospects for students. She said they realised that they had difficulty identifying a market for their skills and knowledge on completion of their studies. He also acknowledged that the industry and its leaders also have a hard time identifying prospective employees.

Kgosietsile stressed that the Engineering Club seeks to unite students, industry, and the community by inspiring innovation.  “Through the expo, we are looking at encouraging students to explore the industry, make contacts with industry leaders and encourage tomorrow’s engineers,” said Kgosietsile. He said it is important for students and industry leaders to create linkages beneficial to the engineering sector. “We encourage everyone to become part of the expo in one way or another to discover what engineers really do and support the diverse opportunities for younger generations of engineers,” he said.

Linda Moseki, Chairperson of the Botswana Institute of Engineering (BIC), is expected to officially open the expo.
