Overgrown Grass A Danger

Thickets on both sides of most roads are causing problems for motorists in Gaborone. To say they obstruct the view for the driver is an understatement. It’s just about impossible to know whether the road is clear enough to make that crucial turn or just trust in luck.  This does not in any way help the cause of working to reduce the high rate of accidents. It is just a recipe for disaster. What about the no less vulnerable pedestrian who can never be sure about what is lurking in the thickets? We appeal to those responsible to address this issue as soon as possible.  Surely this is the time to mobilise Ipelegeng workers to clear the bushes. While we understand that there are high costs involved in such an endevour, it would be worthwhile before lives are lost.

Violent Crime Is Back

This week the Minister of Defense and Security Ndelu Seretse told Parliament that violent and intrusive crime has reduced by 15 people over the last year. While these statistics should be a cause for celebration as we all wish to live in a free crime society, the reality on the ground shocks us. Last week alone recorded a number of violent crimes perpertrated against innocent civilians. An American billionaire and philanthropist Robert Rothschild and his wife Sarah, were attacked in their home, while another unfortunate incident involved customers dining at Nandos main mall. The poor customers were also robbed by the thugs who also ransacked the Nando’s premises. It was not the first time this year that customers found themselves caught in the cross-fire, as earlier this year innocent customers were forced to lie down on the floor as thugs made away with cash at a Choppies store at Partial, Gaborone. Can the police stand up and show their presence please.
