The Mass resignation by the committee was their last resort to force  Mooketsi, who has been pulling on the opposite directions with his committee and the mother body, the Botswana National Sports Council since 2012.

Two weeks ago the athletics committee’s motion of no confidence on Mooketsi  hit hitches, but they quickly found an alternative, a mass resignation that would force new elections that led to his demise.

The athletics body is meanwhile in the middle of preparations for the mammoth African Youth Games that will be hosted  by Botswana for the first time in May this year.

Meanwhile the triumphant Bantsi, who was ousted by Mooketsi three years ago at the height of the athletics body’s internal wrangling has urged the athletics family to be one unit in order to succeed.

After beating Zambia Champi, Bantsi told affiliates that the committee cannot make it without the support of affiliates.”You voted us to lead your organization and we can only do it with your support,” he said.

He also urged those who lost elections to always come to their aid when they need them.”You did not lose elections, it is just that we could not all be in the committee. “You equally have the knowledge that we need to run this organization,” he consoled them.

Glody Dube was retained as the vice president beating Kenneth Kikwe by 26 votes to 12.Patrick Moesi beat Legojane Kebaitse to the position of secretary general and he will be assisted by Olebogeng Oitebetse.

Brian Mosweu was unopposed for the treasurer. Ipolokeng Ramatshaba retained the public relations position after comfortably beating Thatayaone Lefatshe and Sesafeleng Moligaswe. Mompati Ngwako and Moses Raphutshi are additional members.
