PASSOBO vice secretary, Phenyo Makaba has said despite the setback, they are now focused on proceeding even without a proper hand over. He said members of the previous committee refused to hand over the books after they lost elections last May.

A task force appointed last October to look into the issue failed to track down the former officials. Makaba who was part of the task force told Mmegi Sport that they reached a consensus to forge ahead after the handover failed.

He said they could not get hold of former officials because they were unreachable through phone. He said they cannot spend time looking for the officials when there is work to do. “We have received  enquires at our office from people who claim to be owed by the association and it is difficult for us to pay them because we do not have the records,” said Makaba.  He said they sometimes get assistance from the current secretary general, Titus Kebuileng who was in the old committee. Kebuileng said he became part of the committee for a short period in which he attended a single meeting. He stated he could not understand why the committee was refusing to hand over documents. Kebuileng said the committee always promised to deliver but never stick to the promise.

PASSOBO will hold its annual general meeting at Oasis Motel tomorrow. Makaba said in the last meeting, members had requested the association to organise competitions. That is why they will host a sporting day for the blind and the deaf next month. Next will be a competition for people with physical disability to be staged during the Africa Youth Games in May.

Makaba said they will have a national athletics competition in December.

Some of the items on tomorrow’s agenda include the review of the PASSOBO constitution. Makaba said members have shown that the constitution has been overtaken by events, hence the need to review it. He said the meeting would pass a resolution to have an athlete sit on the PASSOBO committee currently headed by Shirley Keoagile.
