Matlhabaphiri who is also Assistant Minister of Public Administration and Presidential Affairs said people in the village have been asking for a new police station since the days of the first Motswana police commissioner Simon Hirschfeld, but in vain. Hirschfeld was police commissioner from 1971 to 1995.

Matlhapabiri, along with  Kwelagobe, decried that Molepolole is still being served by a small police station that is housed at dilapidated buildings.  According to the 2011 Population Census, Molepolole is the most populous village in the country with a population of 67,598. Matlhabaphiri said despite this, the police force in the village is only 50-officers strong, saying this number is inadequate as they also have to serve surrounding villages such as Lentsweletau and Gakuto.  He said this is even more worrisome as this area is burdened with stock theft cases.

On the other hand, the MP for Molepolole South Daniel Kwelagobe told Minister Dikgakgamatso Seretse that he is disappointed that while people in the village have been asking for a new police station for many years, there is no indication that this will happen. He said the buildings are so small that there is no place or privacy for rape victims to be interrogated. Seretse asked for a development fund of P140 million for the Botswana Police Service.
